In this Issue:  5 Reasons for Slow Business Growth

(By Grant D. Robinson, President of People Values & Creator of the Market Leadership System)

Just as every other year, in 2006, there were two types of companies.  Which one of the following describes your business?

“Market Survivor”  -  Over 95 percent of US Small Businesses had no or very low growth in their revenue last year.  Those that did grow, averaged less than 5 percent improvement from 2005.  They remain to be just one of the businesses that do what they do.

“Market Leader”  -  No matter the size, location or age of the business, there are those companies that doubled and tripled their revenues from 2005.  Some of them dominated their marketplace in sales, reputation and market share before 2006, but many of them are newcomers to this status.

The KEY to Market Leadership

Many of the companies that became Market Leaders in 2006 did nothing different from the year before… except one thing.  Do you know what that one thing is?

It usually has nothing to do with marketing or technology or “organization.”  It doesn’t require outsourcing or consultants either.

All it required was for the leadership of the organization to change the expectations they had for their business and lives.  No longer settle to be one of the many companies that do what they do and provide what they provide, but to distinguish themselves as the best.

Sure, to do this does take better marketing and sales, the correct technology and the systems Michael Gerber talks about in the E Myth.  But more importantly requires the Great People in Every Position Jim Collins talks about in Good to Great

Great People in Every Position is the KEY to business growth.  Without it, you and your managers will spend most of your time solving problems that “Workplace Survivors” and “Mis-Hires” create.  Problems like work ethic, low motivation, conflict, turnover, low productivity, errors, ineffective management, etc.

Sound familiar?  If it does, it’s the exact reason your business has stopped growing.

Mediocre people don’t build great companies.  They just create problems, stress and headaches for managers and business owners.

Regardless of how successful your Systems are, if you have the wrong people running these systems, you will struggle to grow.  If you don’t make Great People in Every Position your priority this year, you’ll remain a Market Survivor.

The 5 Reasons YOUR Business Has Stopped Growing

1.  Ineffective Recruiting

If you can’t find great people, you’re looking in the wrong place.  Your Market Leading competitors are finding them and growing their businesses.  And just like you, they aren’t finding great people with classified ads, general web boards or recruiters either.

2.  Instinctive Hiring

74 percent of new hires “disappoint” in the first year.  Studies have shown, three out of every four hires of Market Leaders become TOP Performers; or five to eight times more productive (& profitable) than average employees in the same position.

Market Leaders don’t rely on resumes, interviews, recruiter recommendations, reference checks… or instincts alone to make hiring decisions.  Most of them rely on the technology, science and the customization that “Job Matching Assessments” provide.

(Does investing around $200 to make sure a finalist will be successful in YOUR company and the job make sense to you?  If so, learn how to match TOP Performers to YOUR jobs, by Following This Link!)

3.  Deficient Training

If you have stopped growing, you probably don’t:  Train individually based on a new hire’s learning styles, use thorough training manuals, have employee handbooks, reinforce the goals of the position, provide mentors, etc.

4.  Non Existent Employee Development

If you have stopped growing, you probably don’t:  Meet with every employee once a quarter for review, provide skill training when needed, reset goals, understand how to motivate every “individual” on your team effectively, etc.

5.  Poor Retention

If you have stopped growing, you probably don’t:  Hire the right people in the first place, have leaders that lead by example, understand the importance of the right people in every position, have high enough expectations for your business, etc.
